  3. father's small Nottingham shop trading in
  4. medicinal herbs. Recognizing that the future
  5. lay with patent medicines, he concentrated on
  6. selling cheaply, advertising widely, and
  7. offering a wide range of
  8. medicines. In 1892, Boot also began to
  9. manufacture drugs. He had 126 shops by 1900
  10. and more than 1,000 by his death.
